My Project

I am the school librarian at a Title 1 school in Charleston, SC. I have noticed that in the last couple of years there has been an influx of students enrolling between the second and fourth quarter of the school year.

It can be scary to start a new school, especially during the school year, and I wanted to find a way to help make their first day feel warm and welcoming.

I would like to present each new student with the book All Are Welcome (available in English and Spanish) along with a pencil pouch with a pencil, a small notebook, and a handmade bookmark that will match their house colors. We use the Ron Clark House System at my school so when they enroll they will also be sorted into a house and I want them to feel included in that portion of the school culture as well on their first day.
