My Students

"The more that you read, the more things that you know. The more that you learn, The more places that you will go" by Dr. Seuss. The more my students have in the classroom, the further they will go with their education.

I have 20 wonderful diverse second grade students.

I have higher level students, lower level students, resource students and ESOL students and they are all special and love to learn. I work at a high poverty school. Some of the students in my classroom only have the opportunity to experience reading and holding books in the classroom because they cannot afford to have books in their homes.

My Project

I am requesting subscriptions to Time For Kids Magazine and Scholastic News to help students with events happening around the world and science. Using these magazines, the students will be learning about science and current events as well as experiencing nonfiction text features. Nonfiction text and graphic features is a hard concept for the students to grasp and by having the magazines, the students will be able to understand the different text features.

I believe that the more informed you are the more aware you become.

What's a better way to improve my students' reading and nonfiction skills by providing the opportunity to learn about the world around them and science then with news on their level. When kids have fun reading then they will retain it for forever.
