All About That Bass

My Project

The lead singer, Bono, from U2, once said, "Music can change the world because it can change people." This is a very relevant and accurate statement for the students I have the privilege to educate daily. I teach music in an urban school district to children from kindergarten through sixth grade. Many students in my school can explore and experience music once they enter my classroom. Their minimal music experiences include listening to a car radio that blasts a parent's music and little else.

In music class, my students expand their minds and develop a love and understanding of music that will last them a lifetime.

The students learn that through music, they can be successful in ways that they never thought were possible. Music allows my students to create, dream, explore, and grow every year in my classroom. Many students experience success in music in ways other than academics or physical sensations.

The bass xylophone is an essential instrument in the Orff approach to music education. The Orff Method introduces and teaches children about music on a level they can easily comprehend. A key component of Orff's instruction is that children learn at their level of understanding through lessons presented with an element of play.

Using xylophones through the Orff method of music education puts creative freedom into children's hands. Using xylophones in the music classroom builds confidence in children, increases motor skills, promotes creative thinking and problem-solving, and improves memory, skill, and agility.
