This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Math stations are engaging, motivating, and hands-on. My kids love them, and because they are having so much fun, they don't even realize they are learning. I am a first grade dual language teacher in a high poverty elementary school have 50 students.

My students have a range of academic, social, and emotional needs.

They have a thirst for learning, and for the most part, love being in school. These students work so hard, despite the many challenges they face, between learning disabilities, disrupted home lives, and living in poverty. Our classroom is truly like their home away from home. We are a family, and everyone works to do their best, and to be their best every day!

My Project

The new Common Core standards have given my students a different perspective when working with numbers. They are enjoying learning about numbers and they are ready to learn financial literacy skill. I want them to be able to identify, count, and add money. I want them to learn how to save their money. My students need number sense centers and things. We are requesting a number splash 120 mat floor game, which will be used to work towards Common Core standards. In addition we would like number sense pocket charts to help my student with numeration skills. They need to have a strong foundation in number recognition in order to learn how to count, add, and subtract money. I have also requested a Spanish syllable pocket chart that has many math vocabulary integrated in the center and a boogie board to practice their number writing.

At this age, they need to learn how to identify numbers.

The sooner children learn these basic concepts of numeration the easier it will be when they need to apply these concepts to their daily life. Please help us reach our goal!
