All About Africa

My students need models of Earth such as a Geosafari Jr. Talking Globe to learn about the great world around them, a Djembe Drum, and books about Africa to improve their understanding of Africa.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom involves engaging students in whole group, small group and individual activities. Students create artifacts related to the topic of study. By the end of the year I expect students to take ownership of their learning.

The children are from an urban environment and they come to school with a variety of skills.

When they are introduced to new concepts or materials they are naturally curious. The school is African-centered and seeks to introduce the children to their history and facts about Africa.

My Project

The books and other materials will provide resources for children to explore about topics related to Africa (people, animals, geography, history). The children will create crafts, listen to music, perform a dance, and complete a project for our study on Africa. They will learn about various cultural traditions and practices from northern, southern, eastern and western African countries. They will also enjoy the Geosafari Jr. Talking Globe and Djembe drum.

The donations to this project will provide me with resources for accurately teaching students about Africa.

This project will give students a better understanding of Africa and it will help lay a foundation for further studies into the other continents.
