This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are young enthusiastic learners! They enjoy designing and building structures with blocks. They especially enjoy racing vehicles down the ramps that they have created.
During choice time you'll always find a group of students in the block center building roads and constructing ramps.
Some of my students are preverbal and some are learning English as a second language. They use gestures, words and word approximations to communicate their wants and needs. Some of my students readily share their primary language, Spanish, with their English speaking peers and enthusiastically participate in learning opportunities that enhance their English skills.
My Project
The train set and table will help my students develop multiple skills. Connecting the tracks will help develop eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills. Planning where each track will go will encourage thinking skills. Sharing materials and space will create opportunities for practicing teamwork and cooperation.
My students learn through play and having a train set and table will spark their imaginations and creativity.
My young learners will practice some of the important skills they will need in later life. They will problem solve, think ahead, and develop perseverance. While playing with the trains and creating a network of functional tracks my students will increase their understanding that problems can be solved in many creative ways.
