My Students
The talented students at my school are feeling the pinch of the economic strains facing many Americans. Due to budget restrictions students do not have access to music textbooks. How can musicians become GREAT musicians if they don't have the opportunity to actually look at real music?
I teach in a small, rural school district.
Community members often feel isolated as they must drive 20 minutes to the nearest town to buy groceries and other necessities. The community offers no local fine arts performance opportunities or musical venues. Students must travel over an hour for cultural events like concerts and art museums. I teach music to students in Preschool through Eighth Grade. These students are excited to make music and express their creativity. Although the resources are limited, the students' enthusiasm is anything but!
My Project
By partnering with us and donating to this Donors Choose project you'll be putting music in the hands of these students. Each student in every class will be able to hold the student magazine in their hands. These magazines are really small textbooks. They contain sheet music, assessment activities, listening experiences and more! The music is current and relevant and appropriate for a wide range of ages and learning styles.
For students that usually see only lyrics to vocal music this will be a treat! These materials will make my good musicians GREAT!
