I teach primary-age children with autism spectrum disorders. Our school is a public school dedicated to the successful inclusion of children with special needs.
Our primary-age children love train sets! The multi-piece train sets provide countless hours of creative play for our youngsters. It also helps them to develop their fine motor skills, visual motor planning, organization, visual tracking, and builds imagination! The train set will also provide sensory components such as the clickety clack which will stimulate the children auditorally and the turning of the various wheels (visual).
We need a train table and a train set (tracks and cars). The students can enjoy setting the train and cars up a varied number of ways due to the multi-directional tracks. We can utilize the train set as a reinforcer, tool for building reciprocal play skills, and for the sensory component it provides!
