My Students

I have the privilege of teaching at 4 Title I schools in my district that have diverse populations of students from all over the world. There are students from 10 different countries at my schools. My students enjoy reading, project-based learning activities, robotics and being creative. I have the unique opportunity to teach Horizons, a gifted class at these schools. My students shine when I bring LEGO bricks or electronic kits into a lesson about animals, critical thinking, or problem-solving skills. With our students' economic backgrounds, they don't get many opportunities at home to interact with materials to encourage creative thinking.

My Project

The Lego Learning Express is a wonderful Lego Train Kit that students can construct and use colored cards to program/code the train to move. The kit includes a Push & Go train with lights and sounds, motor, color sensor that interacts with 5 colored action bricks and 2 railroad switches. Students will test and redesign ways to problem-solve and work together to get their train to its destination.

The Lego Learning Express is a great resource to get kids to experience early coding and critical 21st century skills.

I plan to use the Lego Learning Express to teach students coding, creativity thinking, problem solving and cooperation with others with several fun and engaging activities. First, I want the students to explore the kit and try to figure out how to make the train go. This will give students the opportunity to become familiar with this kit. Next, I will introduce students to coding with the Lego Learning Express. Students will then create their own Lego Learning Express town with regular Lego kits and the Learning Express.

The Lego Learning Express is a wonderful tool to teach students many 21st Century skills that will help them throughout their lives. With your help, I can give my students an awesome opportunity to experience The Lego Learning Express!
