My students need twenty Kindle to have internet access at their fingertips, to do read and to use technology on a regular basis as part of their education.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. D.'s classroom raised $2,055

My Students
My students have limited access to technology that could help inspire and develop their interest in literacy. This could be the year that magic happens, and they fall in love with books. A Kindle can hold over 1,100 books; it's a library that students can take wherever they go.
My 11th grade students attend a STEM school in a large urban setting; however, many students have no access to technology at home and have limited resources and opportunities.
Ninety-five point four percent of our students are part of the free/reduced lunch program. Many of our students speak English as a second language.
I've noticed that when given access to technology, my students are more motivated to learn. Our school provides our students with a daily literacy period, which would be greatly enriched if my students had access to all of the engaging features of a Kindle.
My Project
The new Common Core Standards require more collaboration, research, use of technology, and project-based learning. These standards also require more college and career readiness skills than ever before, be taught in the secondary schools. Having the access to technology is going to be key in meeting these new standards. Since school funding can't keep up with these new demands, we teachers have taken it upon ourselves to get the technology for the students on our own.
If my project is funded, my students will use the Kindles to read the books that College Board recommends, and study SAT words using the Kindle's built-in Wi-Fi. I will also be able to check their reading speed when they finish their chapters, and help my ESL students have easy access to audiobooks, as well as Kindle's instant, built-in dictionary.
Donations to this project will help motivate my students to become more proficient readers and writers, and to achieve better results on state tests and college entrance exams like the SAT and ACT.
Ultimately, having access to this tool will spark their interesting in reading, and help them acquire new levels of English language proficiency.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
