My students need various pencils, paper, cleaning supplies, and motivational materials to assist them in learning mathematics throughout the school year.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students start each year absolutely dreading math, but with patience, dedication, and sometimes a little dance or jingle my kids leave the year as better individuals and mathematicians. The biggest challenge in getting my students to this point is having the right resources for them to grow with.
My students are a wonderful bunch of bright and motivated students dedicated to Mathematics and their academics.
Our school is a 6-12 Public Charter School in which about 93% of the students are of Hispanic descent and many are either first or second generation citizens. Additionally, over 50% of the school's population is on either free or reduced lunch. Our students are well-rounded, well-behaved and motivated young adults who care about representing themselves and their school in a positive way. They have made and continue to make our school one of the best to work and learn at.
My Project
The resources I am requesting will go towards creating and maintaining a positive classroom environment where every student has the resources they need to excel at mathematics and are well prepared for their End of Course Exam in May. The various types of paper I am requesting will allow me to make copies of resources available to every student and allow each child the opportunity to practice math problems in class. The graph paper will allow students to take complex looking equations and make them into beautiful and fluid graphs so they are able to visualize what they are solving. The cleaning supplies, such as tissues and paper towels, will allow students to responsibly keep their classroom clean and help us maintain a pleasant learning environment. I've also asked for a number of writing utensils to keep the kids stocked and ready to work each day. The stickers and stamps I've requested will go a long way in keeping my kids motivated and on track to learn algebra this year.
