This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a high poverty area of the city of El Paso. In fact over 90% of our students are coded at risk and many of these students do not have the resources to buy personal computers. The district loans computers but many are sharing with siblings or have a damaged laptop that their parents cannot afford to repair. My students are also Special Education students so they have extra needs.

My Project

These laptops will allow my students to complete their assignments in class. On Wednesdays the students have to complete an assignment in class on their laptops using a program that the school district purchased. This program (IXL) tailors or differentiates the assignments to each individual student's needs based on a diagnostic exam that they take at the beginning of the year.

Since my students are already struggling with learning disabilities, this is an invaluable tool that will enable my students to pass the End of Course State Exams.

I also tutor before and after school and assign work on Schoology another program that the district purchased. If I have these laptops it will enable me to help my students stay up to date or catch up on make-up work that they have not completed.
