This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Not having a pencils, paper, rulers and ink should not hamper our learning.
Our school is in a high poverty neighborhood in Los Angeles County.
Our students have limited resources. To save money our school has cut summer school for the past six to seven years. Our tutoring program does not exist. My students get help in Algebra during my nutrition and lunch period. My students come to school counting on getting the best education. When I was in school tutoring and summer school was always available. I also attended inner city schools as a child but never experienced seeing a teacher not having basic supplies for us. Our students are very respectful and proud of their school. They deserve an equal opportunity to succeed.
My Project
This year we were not giving basic supplies, and I am still waiting since school started for the following:ink for my classroom printer, rulers, printing paper and pencils. My students keep asking me if they can print on our classroom printer. My students ask for rulers to do their graphing in Algebra. My students ask me daily "Mr. do you have a pencil I can borrow"? My answer to them is "I am working on it, sorry". My students just want a chance to have what other school districts around the country provide for their students.
With your support my students and myself will be able to concentrate on the important task of learning Algebra.
We should not have to worry if we have essential supplies. My students will be able to print their research papers, assignments, classroom notes. They will be able to graph using rulers. They won't have to worry if they lost their pencil. I want the best for my students, and I hope we can have your support. Thank you very much.
