I love that when my students see me in the hallway, they call me Mrs. Art Teacher and say hello. They also ask what project they will be doing next and can't wait to come to art class. My students are special because they come from culturally diverse backgrounds and are eager to learn about the arts.
I make it my mission to choose art activities with bright colors that help bring happiness.
I also incorporate activities using social-emotional learning strategies, which help bring calm, joy, and relaxation to my students. They are also enthusiastic learners.
I have requested Astrobrights paper and assorted Shape stickers to create Matisse-inspired collages.
These materials are extremely vibrant and will pop against black paper.
Students will listen and discuss the stories Alfred the Ape Knows His Shapes and a Matisse book.
Students will review shapes and learn about organic and geometric shapes. They will also cut various shapes and embellish them with the stickers requested.
This is a great cross-curriculum lesson since art, art history, math, and literature are being incorporated.
The outcome of the shape collages will be stunning since students will have access to these vibrant colored papers and stickers.
This will truly be an exciting and engaging lesson covering many elements in art and more.
