Alexander Aeronautics and Analytics Math Class Business Simulation

My Project

This year, my math classroom features a galaxy/space theme. I teach at a Title One high school, where juniors and seniors I teach often struggle with math and meeting the graduation math requirement. I want to demonstrate to them that they can achieve great things, including success in math. I have created a fictional business called "Alexander Aeronautics and Analytics," which employs my students. Their job is to do their personal best in class; their responsibilities include arriving on time, parking their cellphones at the front of the room to avoid distraction, participating actively, and completing their math assignments with fidelity. They can earn "Paid Time Off" (PTO) for achieving good grades, which they can use when they need a break, are having a bad day, or need time for other classes. They can also earn PTO points by improving their grade by one letter grade. PTO points are awarded every two weeks.

The snacks you donate will serve as incentives for hardworking students.

Every student has the chance to earn tickets by following our company rules, contributing to a positive classroom culture, and doing their personal best. These tickets can then be redeemed for a special snack. Additionally, each week, students can be nominated as the "Employee of the Week," receiving a personalized certificate to hang in the classroom for the week, which will then be given to the student to take home.

The students I teach face challenges not only in math but often in life itself. My mission is to create a space where my students feel accomplished and valued, learning to be part of a positive, productive workforce community.
