it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Technology drives everything! From the time we wake up to when we fall asleep, we use it everyday! So, why should it take a backseat when it comes to learning in the classroom? We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher's hand. It is the pen and paper of our time!
My students are 21st Century learners and are eager to use all of the technology available to them!
I teach 23 curious, natural born third grade scientists in a small Title 1 school with an amazing and supportive principal. My students are eager to learn and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them. Everything is a potential investigation/experiment to them so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project based opportunities as possible. I constantly enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM correlations whenever possible. Because of our size, funding levels are not as high as other schools in our area so grants become an integral part of how I obtain materials to supplement learning experiences. Our school has made a commitment to increase technology into our classrooms but can only provide what budget numbers allow.
My Project
My students love technology! However, there are not enough computers in my classroom for every student to spend quality time each day. My classroom has six laptop computers that are over eight years old. Students rotate 4 times a day to have use of a computer. By the time all students have a chance to do a learning activity at the computer, over half the day is gone, and several subjects have not yet been covered. My ultimate goal is to have a Chromebook computer for every 2 students in my classroom. The 3 computers requested in this proposal will bring me closer to that goal. Interactive learning will be just a click away and at the fingertips of every student during the day. This portable technology can be taken anywhere inside and outside the classroom. My students will be able access information on demand, do research, and complete assignments cooperatively instead of waiting all day for their turn on a computer that may or may not work.
My students will use these laptops as a learning tool.
They will be able to read books online, conduct research and presentations, view electronic references for clarification, complete assignments digitally and send them directly to me for instant feedback, and develop strong technological skills needed today. Many of my students do not have access to these resources at home so this grant will provide an equal opportunity for all my students to succeed. Thank you for your consideration.
