My Students
"We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher's hand. It is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world."- David Warlick -
My students are 21st Century learners and are eager to use all of the technology available to them!
I teach 23 curious, natural born third grade scientists in a small Title 1 school with an amazing and supportive principal.
My students are eager to learn and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them. Everything is a potential investigation/experiment to them so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project based opportunities as possible. I constantly enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM correlations whenever possible. Because of our size, funding levels are not as high as other schools in our area so grants become an integral part of how I obtain materials to supplement learning experiences. Our school has made a commitment to increase technology into our classrooms but can only provide what budget numbers allow.
My Project
The Common Core curriculum that we are recently implementing has technology embedded into almost every area of learning. Students need be able to access media online in order to complete lessons and create projects, such as power points, iMovies or research projects. Currently, I have several laptop computers in my classroom that students have access to and use during center rotations and when conducting individual and group project research. However, they are very outdated and freeze often, causing much frustration with my students. Upgraded computers are desperately needed so my students can continue to build their technological skills and keep our curriculum moving in a positive direction. My students love to publish and produce their work. They take pride in making presentations to their classmates and parents. These computers will support their learning goals and provide a much needed resource in our classroom.
Having access to current technology and upgraded computers in my classroom will provide an equal opportunity for all of my students, some of whom do not have computers at home.
These laptops will get technology into the hands of my students on a daily basis and will allow them to meet the common core standards that will prepare them for their future.
