My Students
Bo Bennett describes my 21, 2nd grade Einsteins when he said,“Enthusiasm is excitement with inspiration, motivation, and a pinch of creativity.” My students are very curious and motivated to research and find the information to answer their questions each day in class.
I have 21 active, very enthusiastic, and gifted 2nd graders.
My students crave learning and love to work creatively. Our school is a very large public elementary school in the heart of a major city in Tennessee. My students come from many backgrounds and are culturally diverse. The students come from all economic levels and home environments. I work hard to motivate them and keep them excited about learning.
My Project
I have 2 small working computers in my classroom that we do research on. We "squish" around them when we want to search out information and make new discoveries through our research. By using a document camera I can be very visual in my lessons and allow my students to be fully engaged in the learning process. For example, when researching Ellis Island to find out where our ancestors came from, this document camera would allow me to bring the website to life and make my students more interactive and create a more student centered atmosphere. They could bring Ellis Island right into the classroom and make my 2nd graders feel as though they were right with their ancestors coming into the United States for the first time. My students will have an active role in their direct learning. This would be so exciting and much better than looking at 2 very small computers.
This document camera will be such a vital part of our everyday enrichment to our units of study.
I love bringing the curriculum and our state standards to life. You don't need an old textbook to teach students. My students need this document camera to bring the real world to life in our classroom. This will change the way my students research and create projects in our classroom forever in the future.
