My Students
My students are amazingly resilient and creative. Most of them are English Language Learners or English as a New Language learners. They come from large families living in places like China and Korea, just to name a few. These students live in a high poverty area and most of them receive free lunch.
They have come to our school with the most innocent and open minds, ready to learn a new language, make new friends, and experience new routines.
All new experiences excite them. Our school tries to give them many different outlets such as technology, art, music, dance, and theater.
My Project
My students are just coming back into school, after being home for many months. They are nervous, scared, and anxious. They haven't been able to see their friends or other family members. I'm hoping that some of the mindfulness books, will help me better guide them through the beginning of this new and very different school year.
Although they will have to be 6 feet from their friends, and myself, I want to try to make the classroom as comfortable as possible for them.
The silly putty, glitter balls, and liquid hourglasses will help them release their anxiety and nervousness. Sadly they can no longer share materials, so now each child can have their own!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
