Aid Needed for Hurricane Sandy Student Victims

My students need new backpacks to carry to school, as well as paper towels and garbage bags to help clean up the school.

My Students

Our neighborhoods have been devastated by Hurricane Sandy. Our students have not been able to return to school in over a week because their homes are under water or no longer in existence. We desperately need materials like garbage bags and paper towels to help our students and their clean up.

Brooklyn Studio is a fully inclusive 6-12 building of very diverse students.

All of our students, and many of our staff members have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. Many of our students are left with nothing. We are a high poverty school to begin with and now are kids are really hurting.

My Project

We need garbage bags and paper towels to simply clean up the devastation that Sandy has caused. Students can not be expected to return to school and concentrate on their studies when their home lives are in complete chaos. Additionally, we want to replace the school supplies that our students lost to the flood waters. We have already fundraised for the school supplies and now are asking for the backpacks to put the materials in.

This project is important to let our students and community members know that their school cares for them.

We feel for what they are going through and want them to feel that they have a place at their second home, their local school. We cannot replace their personal possessions, their homes, and memories; the least we can do is replace their school supplies.
