After the Flood

My students need supplies such as a pencil sharpener and a printer to do/showcase their best work/creativity, educational magazines to help relate learning to the real world an decorations to make their learning environment inviting.

My Students

"Mrs. Bashful, you are the best teacher I ever had!" These are words that keep me going each morning and motivate me to work hard to meet the needs of each student that I teach. These students face their own struggles every day at home and the classroom may be the only 'break" that they have to get away from their reality. It is my job to allow them to be kids and do what they do best... LEARN!

Our school and students have recently been impacted by the "Great Flood 2016," and we are currently displaced.

We have lost a majority of all of our teaching materials, and a lot of students have lost their homes and school supplies. A majority of our students are high poverty and on the lower end of the socioeconomic status. I teach 80 4th grade students Science, Social Studies, Reading and Writing. My students are eager to learn and I want them to have the best learning experiences this year, despite all of our setbacks. We have been a top gain school in our district for the past 2 years, and with your assistance we will be able to continue the trend!

My Project

Our classroom technology was destroyed in the recent flooding n Louisiana. I am requesting a printer, ink, educational magazines, classroom decorations and a electric pencil sharpener. The printer will be used to allow students to print out things such as:: essays, pictures, etc. Our class uses pencils daily and right now we do not have a means of sharpening them, so the pencil sharpener will be used as a tool to sharpen pencils and colored pencils to help students be successful in the classroom. Educational magazines (Scholastic News and SuperScience) will allow students to relate learning to real world situations to make learning permanent. I will use the classroom decorations to help make our learning environment inviting so students would feel comfortable and eager to learn.

We lost quite a bit in the flooding and have been displaced, getting these supplies funded would mean that we are on our way back to normal.

Our students are eager to learn! School is seen as a safe place for many students and being that many of them lost almost everything in the flood, coming to school may be the only normal thing in their young lives. These materials will allow students to be able to perform well in school and not worry, at least while not in school. Thanks!
