This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school's name includes "Pre-Engineering" and we have one of the best STEM programs around, so with this project, I want to extend my after-school rewards program to not only Reading and Math but also Science.
This will bring in even more students to go above and beyond to improve their futures!
Currently, after school, when a student comes to my classroom logs in, and shows me the book that they are reading, they get a "Gumball Machine Reward". Then a few months ago, I also started giving out rewards to students who come to my classroom log in, and do five math problems. This brought in more students to get these after-school rewards.
Now, I want to not just reward them for reading and doing math, but for their efforts in learning more about STEM. I will create quick STEM activities that will take students five minutes or less to complete and then give them a reward for their efforts. The activities will include Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math to reflect our school's name of "Pre-Engineering".
The rewards I am requesting are more of the favorites that students like to get already, like sneaker keychains, mini plushies, squishy animals, chips, granola bars, pins, and action figures. I am also requesting some items that students have been asking me for like more Hello Kitty, Super Mario, Pokemon, Stitch, and Harry Potter items. Lastly, I need more gumball machine capsules.
