it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We were supposed to start classes September the 5th at our elementary school. I met my new first graders for the first time on August 31, 2017, at our "Meet and Greet the Teacher " When my students entered our classroom it was all decorated and ready for learning. After Hurricane Harvey, my classroom is gone, my school is being taking apart and we are being relocated to another school 7 miles away. I met some of my students and they appeared to be energetic and eager to learn. Most of my students are having bad experiences after the hurricane, and I would like them to have an enjoyable and fun year of learning in our class. They come from low income families and they are part of a dual language program.
My Project
I am asking for an iPad for my classroom to replace the one we already had, and we lost during hurricane Harvey. This device will allow the students to use the interactive material that our new curriculum has built in. The students will use the iPad in their centers to play interactive reading games, watch grammar videos, practice their spelling and vocabulary words, read e-books, reading a to z books, and take online reading tests by Scholastic Reading. The students will be put on a rotation schedule allowing each student time with the iPad during the week. The iPad will be used to improve reading fluency, speech-to-text applications to help the reluctant writer, and applications focusing on their improvements to put up-to-date information in the hands of young readers.
The student can start the iPad easily, choose an application, and are involved in fun, game-like educational activities within minutes.
Often times the student is not aware that he or she is even learning. The IPAD will be used to help young children with reading readiness and beginning math skills.
