My Project
My students are full of vibrancy and talents. They don't always see these qualities in themselves. My students are helpful and supportive, but they often don't recognize these qualities in themselves. My students struggle with affirming their worth and loving themselves. Some have previous trauma that contribute to their current state of mind. Some lack coping skills to respond to situations in a healthy way and instead resort to engaging in harmful coping techniques. Self-harm is not a cry for attention, but rather a way for individuals to cope with stress and deep seeded emotions. It gives them a temporary reprieve for what they are currently struggling with.
My students have limitless potential and need the support to help them to equip themselves to grow in healthy ways, to self-love.
My goal for this project is to utilize the materials donated to help students towards self-actualization. I aim to make mental health an everyday conversation by putting up bulletin boards, such as the one requested in the materials focused on positive affirmations. Signage in the building focused on mental health helps to send the message that talking about your feelings is ok. Also, when we have conversations about positive coping skills and tools, fidget toys can be available to provide students with access to a positive coping tool. I will hold small groups that center around positive affirmations, self-worth, and self-love. The inspirational stickers, SEL books, and positive affirmation bracelets will be tools that I use with the students to help them grow towards self-actualization.
