Aesthetically Pleasing, Please!

My students need new books bins, labels and plastic caddies to help reorganize our tired and worn-out classroom library.

My Students

This year, I teach a class of 31 second graders in the Gifted and Talented class. My school is in a changing neighborhood in New York City. Recently, as a result of this change, my school lost over $300,000 in funding by losing our Title I status.

My students are intelligent and eager to learn.

They love reading and share my love for having tons of books in their organized classroom library. I would love for our library to reflect the reverence and interest they have for reading by looking more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

My Project

Right now, our classroom library is full of mismatched bins, many of which are cracked and broken. The bins are all different sizes, shapes and colors. This makes is hard for students to pin point the various genres included in our library. Creating a space that is organized and makes sense requires the right materials to do so. We need new books bins, labels and plastic caddies to help reorganize our tired and worn-out classroom library.

I believe that our library should be the heart of our classroom.

It should stand out to visitors and the students who use it daily. My students are avid readers and love to delve into all the books in our classroom. Unfortunately, because of the unpleasing look of our current library, some students feel overwhelmed in trying to find a book.

By getting the plastic book bins and organizers in only two different colors, I can create an organized and calming library environment for my students. I will dedicate one color to informational texts and the other to fiction and other literature. If you can appreciate and organized and eye-pleasing place to get books and read, than please consider donating to this very necessary project!
