My Students
Can you imagine a classroom without books? That's our school. We are not given funds for any books to start a library, so we must rely on your generosity. These classic tales allow the student to travel back in time to a romantic England full of manners, humor, sword play, and young romance.
We are a charter high school located on a community college campus.
We provide a small-school environment (300 students) where teachers and students build academic relationships. Also, our students take real college classes for dual credit; many of our students will be the first to attend college from their family. We allow them a cost-free opportunity to build confidence and explore the possibilities of higher education.
My Project
Frankenstein is the original science fiction novel, written by a poet's wife on a dare! Shelley brings social issues, such as science and technology into a wild adventure story. Pride and Prejudice is a realistic peek into Georgian society in the 1800's. No other novel captures the graces and obstacles of class society; also, Miss Austin's constant wit is pure genius. No British Literature class would be complete without reading Charles Dickens. He is the master of the "underdog makes good" story by using realistic and detailed settings and situations, especially the gloom of debtor's prison and child labor. All of these novels transport the students to a time where language was mastered and respected; where manners and respect were revered; plus, they get to see glimpses of today's problems in classic texts. The connections and historic learning are endless!
At our school, we believe every child can go to college.
Therefore, we provide a rigorous curriculum with amazing support, so all of our students can read rich literature, understand it, and learn about themselves through the experience. There's nothing like watching a child's "light bulb" go on and see their joy of learning.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
