This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project will provide STEM-focused games and building supplies—such as mini building bricks, magnetic tiles, marble runs, Boggle, Connect 4, and a mobile whiteboard. With these tools, students will construct, strategize, and collaborate, turning our last 30 minutes in the day for our recess into a hub for problem-solving and invention. This project supports my third grade students who come from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, including bilingual learners and those with unique abilities and needs. These students thrive when given hands-on opportunities to explore, create, and problem-solve. Having a range of STEM supplies ensures every child can engage at their level, building confidence alongside curiosity.

STEM games are more than play—they teach critical skills like reasoning, teamwork, and perseverance.

With building bricks and marble runs, students will explore engineering basics. Games like Connect 4 and Boggle develop logic and vocabulary, while manipulatives and magnetic tools reinforce math and science concepts. Indoor recess should not feel like lost time; it should be a chance for students to experiment, design, and think like young engineers. When the Texas sun blazes or storms roll through, my students still need recess that lets their imaginations run wild.
