My Students

"My kids" live in a rural area with a high poverty rate. Many of them have never traveled beyond the nearest large town 20 miles away. Trips to museums, the forest, a ski hill, a ghost town are often only through the school - and those types of trips have been severely limited these past years. It never fails to delight me when a student exclaims, "this is so cool!" when seeing something/somewhere new for the first time.

They love to explore; to see the world beyond what the textbook offers.

They delight in new technology, they explore unafraid of the buttons, bells and whistles - a trait I envy. They are sponges, excited about what the world has to offer.

My Project

The virtual reality headsets will make exploration to museums, time travel, exploration of the Seven Wonders of the World and beyond, possible.

These virtual reality headsets will take students from their classroom seats to adventures without end.

Re-purposing old phones will provide the gateway for the headsets and students can explore historical sites in history class, look at the inside of a cell in science, or visit an author's childhood home to name a few.

31 headsets will create a classroom set for use in the library or in classrooms on a check-out basis. Students will be able to learn about a topic in a manner that will make it STICK!
