This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In my art classroom, students do more than learn to paint and sculpt. My students are encouraged to express their ideas, opinions, and feelings through their art. They are challenged to think through a problem to a solution and persevere till you finish.

My students learn to think creatively, analyze through investigation, try new things, and apply their knowledge with determined focus.

My students come from very diverse backgrounds and bring such variety to my classroom. My goal as an educator is to be there for my students and to provide a rigorous, intriguing, and eye-opening curriculum.

My students are very creative and love learning new techniques and new mediums. My students have won numerous awards at art competitions this year and I couldn't be more proud.

My Project

This is my first year teaching the advanced ceramics course. Many of my students are extremely interested and successful using clay.

The courses I teach are ART 1, Pre-AP ART 1, Ceramics 2,3,4 Sculpture 2,3,4 and AP Studio Art 3D-Design and clay is a huge part of every curriculum.

All of my courses use clay to some degree and my advanced ceramics students have wheel throwing in their curriculum and it's usually the reason they sign up for ceramics. I need to grow my knowledge of wheel throwing from novice to expert. This workshop is very specific to my need and very hard to find due to our location. We are a small town in south Texas located 2 hours away from any major city, which always causes difficulties when finding pertinent professional development in the arts. I was extremely excited to find this workshop, however my budget does allow for anything else beyond supplies. This workshop will give me the skills needed to better educate my students for years to come.
