Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The seniors enrolled in the AP United States and AP Comparative Government courses have worked tirelessly to understand the concepts covered in each course. They approach the subject with enthusiasm and curiosity. I am hopeful that all students will pass their AP Government exams in May.

The student body at our school is diverse, yet inclusive.

My students are incredibly hard working students who value the learning process. They tackle academic challenges daily and push themselves to improve their understanding of content covered in the AP US Government and AP Comparative Government curriculum. Many of the students have overcome instances of adversity that add extra obstacles to the learning process. 100% of students receive either free or reduced lunch. Many of my students work after school to financially support their families or take care of siblings while their parents/guardians work long hours. Many, despite adversity, plan to attend top-tier colleges next year. Often times, my students struggle with how to study for rigorous exams like the AP U.S. and Comparative Government Exams. The Barron's Review Book, which is 100% aligned to both AP Government curriculum, will help my students better prepare for the AP exams.

My Project

My hope is that my students will have the Barron's Review Books for AP US Government and AP Comparative Government by early April so that way they can have a month to review with them. They will be bringing these to school on a daily basis and we will have review set up every day in class and for Saturday study sessions. Having access to sample multiple choice, free response questions, and thorough answer keys provided in the Barron's test preparation guides will improve my students performance on the AP exams in May. Additionally, students have the ability to study autonomously as well as in group settings, which are both valuable at the post-secondary level.

Students that receive a 3 or higher on the AP exam are eligible to receive college credit.

Because students are enrolled in two separate AP Government courses this school year, they have the ability to receive credit for two college courses. This will save them over $1,000 for an in-state school and over $5,000 for an out-of-state school and increase their odds of graduating on time. This is particularly advantageous for students that come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
