Advanced African Drumming for the General Music Classroom
My students need 2 larger drums for larger students, new music for advanced study, and all students need small music stands for their class because music literacy is key!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Bullen's classroom raised $519

My Students
Our students are starving for positive community experiences, acceptance and outlets for self expression. My students crave music.
Our school has a very high poverty rate which means that most of our student population eats all meals at school.
Kids spend so much of the day here at school that their experiences here really shape and define them as young adolescents. It is the impact of sharing music and learning to listen to each other that helps prepare our kids to become understanding adults.
My Project
With drums that fit the size of our students, the physical variety of small, medium, and large drums will further enforce the idea that all drums are different and equally important to the sound of the ensemble, just like other people. New curriculum will keep variety and perspective in the program when workshops are not always an option for me as a teacher. The classroom set of music stands will help the students hold music, manuscript or class notes and give respect to those documents instead of using the floor. I support using visual aid with kinesthetic and auditory music or arts lessons.
This grant will provide a solid backing to a new program at this school and will round out the instruments offered for African drumming.
The new varieties of music and rhythmic study will enhance the lessons with more perspective, and the music stands will provide physical space for the students' work and resources.
