My Students
My students come from all over the county to attend a public charter school. We accept everyone through a lottery and are growing a beautifully diverse student body. Some students have a lot and some have very little, but we are one school family. We have no admission requirements and embrace everyone. Our students and teachers are good and hardworking people. Some of them come from an hour away just to come to our school. That means something to me.
My Project
Our tiny school is located a block from a popular beach. This beach is an annual nesting place for the loggerhead sea turtle, and a stopover for migratory birds. Unfortunately, some tourists treat it like an ashtray. In order to teach our students environmental stewardship and to be active in the community, we are participating in the Adopt-a-Beach program. Grabbers are needed for picking up things such as: litter, glass, and cigarette butts, in order to keep our students’ hands safe. We aim to keep our little island beautiful and help mold better citizens and a better future for all.
