Addressing Grief in the Classroom: Centers for Mental Health

Help me give my students SEL centers to support them as they cope with the loss of multiple classmates. My classroom needs resources to better address mental health.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Schertell Geenen's classroom raised $488

My Project

The requested items, such as sensory toys, bubbles, and colored pencils will help students manage anxiety and emotional distress, allowing them to focus better in the classroom. The inclusion of supplies like highlighters, mechanical pencils, pencil sharpeners, and sticky notes will cut out any needless worry if students have forgotten something. Additionally, the affirmation stickers, silly erasers, and inspirational bookmarks will promote positivity, reinforcing the importance of emotional well-being alongside academic success. All supplies will go in the caddies which will be distributed at every table group so students can effortlessly grab what they need.

My primary goal is to create a supportive environment that addresses my students' mental health as they cope with the recent losses that have rocked our campus.

These resources will serve as tangible tools as well as reminders that mental well-being is priority. Ultimately, I want to ensure that every student feels valued and equipped to thrive both academically and emotionally.

My students are incredibly resilient and compassionate, navigating significant challenges while showcasing remarkable strength. Their willingness to support one another during difficult times highlights their deep sense of empathy. This project is my way of honoring their experience and addressing the shift in our educational needs so that we can continue growing and learning together as we process our collective grief.

Thank you for your consideration.
