This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you stopped using your fingers to count? How great that feeling was! I want my little ones to share in that feeling!

My first graders are amazing little learners.

They are from the inner city. My students lack the basics at home. Our school receives 100 percent free lunch, most of our kids come to school to eat. Many save their food so at night they have something to eat. They come to school to look for us to fill those needs that they have. Despite it all, they love being in school, and given the opportunity they love to learn.

My Project

My students will use the beat the clock games to work in partners as they practice their addition fluency. They can compete against their times each time they play it. My hope is that my students gain a fluency for addition facts. I would like to see finger counting gone! My students will use the problem solving skills centers in order to increase their problem solving skills. This is one of our weakest areas. My students can not find problem solving fun, so I want to try to increase their excitement for it by giving them the centers.

With your help, my students will increase their addition skills.

The fluency games, and the problem solving games will allow my little first graders to work in groups/partners and increase their addition skills. Through daily addition fluency, they will increase their knowledge of addition facts!
