This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from many different countries across the globe. They speak multiple languages and have unique traditions and practices that I love to learn about from them first hand. Their experiences are both incredible and harrowing, and yet we all come together in the same classroom to find comfort, education, and a positive environment.

What makes these students so special is that they all have something to teach each other, and they always have something to teach me.

In a world where new technologys is always at our fingertips, it's meaningful for me to teach them about my love for books and how books always help us learn something new. I don't want books to be a foreign object to them, and a fun and inviting book can teach them incredible lessons on so many different levels.

My Project

During our Accountable Independent Reading sessions, the students get to choose a book on their reading level that interests and excites them. My classroom library has continued to grow this year, but it seems I never have enough of what my students want!

Nothing makes me happier than when a student requests a particular book to read, and I will do everything in my power to get those books for them!

DonorsChoose.org is a fantastic opportunity to help both the students and myself.

Since they speak a myriad of languages and have a variety of interests and hobbies, I'm always looking for new books that will grab their attention and make them want to keep reading. Simply reading for enjoyment is something that I sadly see declining as students become entranced with their smart phones and other technology. I want to instill a love of reading in them and let them know that there is a world outside of their own that exists between the lines on the pages of a good book!
