Adding Math to My Library

Help me give my students access to manipulatives, dry-erase usage, and help me build a classroom library! I am hoping to use the Math Start Stories to help integrate reading and math together.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Currently, we have no class library or dry-erase boards in our classroom. Flex time is currently spent with students having monitored Chromebook access. This is not ideal and I believe this time could be better spent.

Having a class library would allow students to choose to read during flex time as an alternative option.

It is my hope to encourage students to read by including a variety of reading materials in the classroom. Some of the books included will help students develop social-emotional skills, while others can be used to introduce new math concepts.

My students use their desks as their dry-erase surface because we do not have boards available. If we are able to acquire these materials we will be able to use the dry-erase sleeves in place of boards. These sleeves have the additional perk that any sheet can be inserted for students to practice skills upon and wipe away as needed.
