I used to hear "I hate to read!" from students. Now, I am hearing, "Do you have the third book in the series? I really need it!" or "I just finished my book. I need another book by that author." I am thrilled by this change.
My students are now in the "Reading Zone." They are reading a lot.
(Our goal is to read 40 books this school year.) Yet, we still are lacking some important books in our library. For instance, we really need Hunger by Michael Grant. If anyone has read Gone and Lies, you'll understand that reading the third book Hunger is not optional. It's a must!
My Project
Aliteracy is when students can read but don't. Please help me combat this with my students by helping us get the books we need. Right now, books are really in demand. Lifelong readers are being created. Please consider helping us keep it up! We have some paperbacks that have literally fallen apart. We've been patching them up but some are in tatters.
These 41 books that I am requesting will have a big impact on our classroom.
Encouraging reading (and writing) has been my number one goal this year. It's going well but more books would be a lifesaver. One student asks me everyday if I got in Mockingjay yet! Please help me put that book in his hands!
