Our classroom is full of active music-making in all forms: playing instruments, singing, composing, conducting, listening, dancing, and everything in between. The Orff xylophones are some of the students' favorite instruments to play.
The students are very excited to come to music class because they have the opportunity to express themselves creatively and connect the music they hear at home with activities in the classroom.
They love to dance and play instruments, and are creative composers as well.
My Project
Currently our music room has only one bass xylophone. This means that there is always a mad dash for the bass whenever we choose xylophones! It also means that we have very little bass to our ensemble sound when we are playing as a group. With hip-hop music being so popular with my students, they always notice music with a more prominent bass line. Adding more bass to the sound would not only give a fuller ensemble sound but appeal to the students' aesthetic as well.
The bass xylophone is also the only bass instrument in the entire classroom, so when it comes to applying their skills in reading bass clef notes, we have only one instrument for the entire school to share! Having two more will allow more students to rotate and apply their knowledge to a real instrument.
The bass section of any music group is very important, and with two more bass xylophones the number of students that have the opportunity to play bass notes will triple!
Students will be able to experience hearing and playing bass lines, and apply their knowledge of reading bass clef notes to their instrument playing. These instruments will open up a whole new level of music-making for the students and they will be so proud of the fuller, richer sound!
