Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am lucky to work in an urban school where I teach over 500 diverse students. About 80% of our students fall below the poverty line and face a number of challenges at home and at school. We also have a large population of students who are new to the country. Despite a number of challenges, these kids look forward to coming to school and are ready to give their best.

My students continue to overcome a number of obstacles in this increasingly difficult time.

Although challenging, we are all committed to making remote learning as connected, personable and successful as possible. These kids are loving, kind and appreciative. I want to provide these kids with the very best opportunities; they truly deserve this.

My Project

These markers, paints, and colored pencils will cause a lot of excitement to so many kids who do not have these supplies at home. I am trying my absolute best to teach lessons that are engaging but do not require actual art supplies.

We would be able to explore color by making beautiful macaws, learn about the color wheel and mix our own colors, and create a beautiful underwater world.

Everything is better with color!

Despite having a budget of $1 per child, I am trying to plan and supply art projects that will provide a computer break where kids can draw, color, cut, glue and just use their imagination as if they were in the art room. They need this creative outlet and time to explore and have fun away from the computer screen.
