Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is committed to creating a safe, equitable learning environment for our beloved students. In this second-grade classroom, we have 23 hard-working students from North Philadelphia. These students bring a diverse set of identities to our classroom that contribute to the rich culture of our community. It is crucial to me to develop a space that feels representative to each of these students.

For many of these 2nd grade students, this will be the first time entering a classroom since they were in kindergarten!

As we begin this transition, the emotional health and safety of the students will be a top priority.

My Project

It has been proven that color draws the attention of humans. For the eyes of seven and eight year olds, color is especially important! With the return to in-person learning, our paper materials need to be as engaging as a screen. Our classroom is also still in the progress of becoming the bright, engaging space that students deserve. As of now, our school does not have a color printer. In order to get colorful materials, I have been making many trips to the local office supply store! It would be such a help to have a printer in our room.
