Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from families who are hoping to see their children be the first to graduate from college. As the head of our RTI team, I am charged with the task of supporting college-prep English and Math supports to ensure ALL of our students have a chance at college success.

Our community of high school students is thriving!

Our wait-list is expanding, our test scores are rising, and more and more get accepted into college each year. Other school leaders and students constantly visit our little campus to see the gains our students prove through their application of technology, science, math, and the humanities at our exhibition nights. Then, students head into the real world as interns to test their skills in labs, offices, and schools. Each year we become more technologically literate in our instruction (important at a school with "Technology" in it's name).

My Project

My students need five Chromebook laptops to practice essential reading and math skills so they can prepare for graduation and college success. The next step in this phase is to have a "mini-lab" of computers available to students who need extra help. Students come to our "learning center" for small group instruction, tutoring, and extra interventions to help them build skills and confidence. We find that many of our struggling learners thrive when they get help through adaptive and interactive online educational programs. Having a mini lab of five Chromebook laptops will help our learning center teachers deliver this type of instruction and support. (Currently we're limping by on laptops that frequently break down, or having to go on a hunt by asking other teachers around campus if we can borrow theirs.) We'd like to simplify the process by having a permanent set of laptops here for students to use with a teacher's presence, throughout the day.

With your donation I am confident that my students will receive an equitable education and a real shot at college success.

With new laptops and programs, my students will not only build vital skills, but also develop college-bound habits and mindsets that will help them make their way through college and become the first in their family to graduate. Thank you for your support!
