Help me give my students disinfecting wipes, tissues, and tools to complete their assignments, an easel for small groups, and a voice amplifier to project my voice.

My Students

I am a special education teacher in a 5th grade ICT class. This class consists of general education students and students with special needs. My students are an energetic group of curious learners who in spite of our current situation, are willing to work to achieve their academic goals.

Because of the pandemic, we are required to wear masks in school.

While this practice is important for our safety, it sometimes makes it difficult to hear each other when we speak. This also makes it a bit challenging for students to remain engaged during instruction when they have difficulty hearing the instructor. However, my students' desire to learn drives them to find ways to adapt to the situation.

Most of my students come from low-income families, and most of their parents have lost their jobs due to Covid-19. As a result, most times they do not have the necessary tools needed to complete their assignments.

My Project

We are now officially in flu season and we are still experiencing the pandemic; as a result, it is important for us to take precautionary measures. To ensure that my students are safe we need a continuous supply of tissues and disinfecting wipes.

To effectively adapt to the requirements of the CDC, we have to be innovative.

In order to keep my students engaged throughout the day, a voice amplifier can be used to ensure that the mask no longer muffles my voice. Acquiring a reversible easel is another adaptive measure, I can move it around the room to work with small groups of students while observing the social distancing protocol. This easel can be reversed to record my students' thoughts and ideas during instruction.

Since most of our families are experiencing financial hardship, they are unable to provide school and classroom supplies for these students. Because my students have shown that they are determined to learn, in spite of all the adjustments we have to make, I want to help secure the tools necessary for providing them with the academic experience they deserve.
