Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Pre-K students are excited to learn, eager to play, and always a joy to be around. They are sponges that soak up anything and never cease to amaze me with the wise words and great ideas they have. I work at a school that serves students from an under-served, low-income population. My young students come from a variety of difficult home situations and school is a safe place for them to be themselves.
It is truly a joy for my co-teacher and I to watch our young Pre-K students learn new concepts, participate in new experiences, and grow as they work in our classroom.
Teaching through distance learning has certainly been challenging, especially given the home situations that my students and families come from. I hope that these materials will make teaching easier and safer for my students and their families in our changing world.
My Project
These materials will benefit students both in at-home learning and in our transition back to the classroom. These materials will help me easily adapt from in-person to online teaching. If we will be learning online, these materials will assist me in creating videos that I can send to my students. The tripod will make it easier for me to create videos. The books and toys are all items I can use to make my videos more engaging and fun. I have also added reusable storage containers that will store my teaching materials at home, but back in the classroom will be of great importance. In the classroom, these trays will help me provide each student with their own materials so that they do not need to share, lowering their risk of spreading COVID-19.
Our students will be coming back to a new way of learning next year and these materials will help us adapt to a variety of educational formats.
The puppets, roadway toys, and counters are items that I will use to make videos to send to my students. I can use the puppets to make engaging read-aloud videos. I can use the counters to teach sorting and counting as well as identifying animals and foods. The roadway toys will assist me in teaching students road rules and different community jobs. The books will add racial diversity to our classroom library. These books will introduce my students to have a variety of role models that they may not have been exposed to. These items will make online learning much more effective and engaging for my pre-K students. Additionally, all of these items will easily transition into daily use as we go back to the classroom.
