My students come from a low-income/high poverty area and are very diverse, both in race and socio-economic status. 100% of our students receive free lunch and breakfast. Many have experienced trauma and have some tough home lives, but that doesn't bring them down. They are very eager to learn.
Since our transition to distance learning, it has become clear that my students do not have equal access to learning materials at home.
Depending on specific students' needs and availability of materials at home, some students are learning in paper packets, some are learning online, and some are doing a combination of both. Even with all their struggles, they work very hard and take great pride when they accomplish a tough lesson. They are enthusiastic about learning and excited to explore new learning opportunities every day!
My Project
Our state has closed all school buildings for the remainder of the school year. Though the buildings are closed, there is still a tremendous amount of learning happening. My scholars are working harder than ever!
Because of the unique challenges of distance learning, my scholars are learning through a combination of print resources, online programming, teacher-recorded videos, and hands-on items.
Learning plans look different for each individual scholar based on access to materials and access to technology.
A Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will help me provide scholars with print resources that are adapted to each child's needs and learning strengths, as well as online resources that will integrate with our online learning platform, Google Classroom. I will be able to purchase licenses for quality lessons created by other teachers, and either upload them to Google Classroom or print and mail them to students based on need. This will also help me meet Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals for scholars with specific special needs by choosing lessons that meet their learning targets.
