My students need an iPad to encourage creative movement, utilize videos to teach gross motor skills, and provide instant motivation through games.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Mens sana in corparo sano" is an ancient Greek phrase meaning 'healthy mind in a healthy body'. Science demonstrates how true this is; a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. Through Adapted PE lessons involving strength, flexibility, balance and competition, students with disabilities flourish.
I work with Adapted PE students aged 3 through 22, with all sorts of disabilities.
Cerebral palsy, autism, vision and hearing impairments, and traumatic brain injuries are just a few. I am itinerant, starting my days at an elementary school working with individual students. Next, I teach a small group lesson at a junior high. I finish my day teaching three periods of Adapted PE at a high school. I also coach our Challenged Athletics Sports Team, which competes in a district league. Students are able to earn their block letters through being a part of this formally recognized team. I am part of my students' IEP teams, working with special education teachers, psychologists, occupational therapists, administrators and parents to develop appropriate learning plans. I have 60 students on my caseload, who I serve each week. I have the best students in North America. They try their hardest, encourage each other, compete with heart, and live each day fully. I am very privileged to teach.
My Project
I will bring the iPad along with me to each school. I will be able to use it in a myriad of ways. I will use video to show proper exercise form while outside. Motion Doctor is a tool for showing (videos built in) exercise in narrative form and video. There are many apps that encourage physical movement. Many of my students are nonverbal, and an iPad is excellent for communicating with them (pointing to exercise they prefer, choosing an activity, etc.) GoNoodle is an excellent program which involves students in lots of creative movement. An iPad would enable me to use GoNoodle video in the field. You can also use it for games. For instance you can run an Egg and Spoon Race. This is just like the old egg and spoon race, keeping your iPad level.
An iPad will dramatically increase the number of activities I can help my students experience.
It will create interest in my students and help motivate them. Ultimately, it will help my students be healthier, in body and mind.
