Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at our education center have a hydrotherapy pool. They can learn to walk in the parallel bars and the warmer water keeps them active. They need the wet swim vests so they can float and kick independently.

Our special education center serves moderate to severe students with Multiple Disabilities, Autism, and Cognitive Impairments.

The ages range from the 3 year old pre-schoolers to 13 years old in junior high students. The Adaptive Physical Education Department offers Adapted Aquatics classes weekly.

My Project

Adapted Aquatics involves many learning opportunities! There are many physical, psychosocial, cognitive and recreational benefits for our special students: The warm water is therapeutic for and helps relax muscle contracture's, relieves pain and spasms while increasing range of motion in joints, improving muscle strength and endurance. They can locomotor without assistance for self-esteem and self-awareness. They can have age-appropriate experiences while playing games or learning swimming skills. They can go to a community pool or private pool party with proper behaviors, knowing pool safety and procedures while enjoy the experience with family and friends. Proper safety equipment is need for all student to access the aquatic environment.

Adapted Aquatics is an opportunity for our wheelchair students to be out of their wheelchairs and locomotor on independently.

They love the independence and moving themselves in the aquatic environment.
