Give students with special needs the opportunity to learn in a safe and student centered learning area.
Students with special needs require different resources.
The students with special needs in grades K-6 at my school come from homes with limited resources. It is a shame the school is limited on resources as well and cannot give these students the quality materials necessary to foster their learning.
My students face the issue of having to use hand-me down classroom equipment. We currently have three tables and a desk put together to create a horseshoe effect. This takes up valuable space and creates a hazard for the students and teacher as well. The teacher as she tries to get to the children to assist them with tasks has the potential to trip on the extra legs and it is cumbersome to maneuver around in this small space. Due to the fact that there are three tables and a desk put together in this fashion, there are multiple legs that create a barrier for children when trying to work in groups to solve problems or play learning games.
My Project
The acquisition of this activity table allows for effective use of space in the classroom. It allows the teacher to more effectively support and scaffold children as they need assistance. The removal of the extra legs with the discontinuing of the current tables allows for students to work cooperatively, which research proves is an effective method of learning for children of special needs.
By contributing to this project, you will be making a difference in so many students' lives, as they travel their educational path.
A table is a very basic need, but this activity table will provide a positive, student-centered learning environment. It will ensure more time spent focusing on student learning and needs, and less time trying to traverse the maze of tables and desks in the classroom. Thank you for supporting this project, which will have positive affect on student learning.
