My Students

My students arrive with huge smiles, and an eagerness to learn. However, they need information presented in multiple formats, with repetition and an emphasis on generalization. Movement, sounds, and visual presentation are essential to their learning and success. Appropriate materials and learning opportunities are necessary to increase their access to employment opportunities, and an increased quality of life. My students range in age from 11-14, and have unique abilities ranging from Autism to profound disabilities. We are based in a rural area, with limited access to stores and cultural centers.

My Project

Special education classrooms are ever evolving to meet the needs of students. This year is no exception. I am excited to welcome a couple of students who are medically complex/fragile. Materials must be created and adapted in order to meet their needs.

I have used activity arches, such as this one, in the past for similar students.

Unfortunately, my current classroom does not have one. This arch will enable me to create accessible learning, sensory, and leisure activities for my students. Because these students are in wheelchairs, materials need to be able to hang and be adjusted to enable them to engage in learning activities.
