The majority of my students come from low income families. Also, their parents are working parents who sometimes work through the day and night to help support their families. Although their parents are interested in their education sometimes it is difficult for them to be involved and to help them because they are too busy trying to make ends meet. So the majority of their learning happens in school and only at school. It is important that as their teacher I have quality materials to help ensure that they are learning to the best of their abilities.
Many of my students are interested in learning but it's difficult for them to do so because of certain struggles that they are dealing with at home.
A few of my students are living in shelters and come to school with the same clothing on for a week. Some of them don't have socks on their feet and their shoes are too small. Many of the students also live in homes with only one parent due to split ups or divorce. My students are sweet, innocent children that deserve the very best education.
My Project
We are requesting centers to place around the room. Centers on sight words, capitalization and punctuation, reading comprehension, writing and more will keep my students engaged throughout the day. Young learners can be difficult to engage and having a variety of centers will help to keep them engaged and interested in their learning. Also, my school does not provide the teachers with copy paper or ink for printers. Many of the activities I do with my students are from online sources and need to be printed out and then copied. I purchase many packages of copy paper out of my own pocket, along with ink cartridges. Nameplates for the students desks are a must in first grade. My young students are still learning their letters and sometimes they come into first grade without knowing how to spell their names.
We also need the nameplates have the alphabet and number line printed on them.
The centers that I have chosen are all geared towards first grade learning. Literacy centers are very engaging for my students and they can be highly effective for their education. Having a variety of centers in a first grade classroom is key to keeping the students engaged and focused. My students can be difficult to engage and having centers will really help. Having a variety of centers and materials in our classroom will help my students stay interested in learning and will help them focus more on what they are learning. Looking forward to a different center each day will really help keep my students engaged.
