Help me give my students an equitable opportunity for a quality education. These headphones with attached microphone would meet the needs of our high risk students in second grade.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at our high-risk school are facing many challenges this year in distance learning and background noise at home shouldn't be one of them. Our school is 100% free lunch and 80% are ELL. Many of our families are struggling just to get by and unfortunately purchasing headphones is not in their budget. Our students are persistent and motivated to learn, showing up every day, and giving their best effort. Sadly many of our students' homes are too noisy for them to participate during online learning without their home noise distracting from the class.
Our students are second language learners, and it is so important for our students to have a quiet learning environment to develop decoding skills with intensive instruction in phonological awareness and phonics.
Our students are also required to take the same amount of assessments as they would if they were in school. This puts our students at a disadvantage when compared with students from more affluent neighborhoods. By fulfilling this request you would be taking an obstacle away that our students have no control over.
My Project
These headphones will provide our students with an equitable opportunity at a quality distance education. By blocking out background noise and having a microphone attached, our students will be able to actively engage in their learning. They will now be able to participate in class without having to worry about background noise interfering.
Student engagement also builds better relationships with other students.
Now more than ever students need to be able to engage with one another through distance learning. As a result, it improves student personality and enhances their skills that are necessary for driving change.
